Hello JRCSD families and staff,

I would like to start by saying that, although we had a few bumps along the way, it was a great first week of school for our district. It was wonderful to see all of our learners back in the buildings. I visited schools and classrooms and was able to watch some of our learners compete in sporting events throughout the week. There seemed to be a real sense of happiness and optimism with those I talked to around the district.

As you are aware, the COVID-19 infection rates continue to climb in our area. Below is an update concerning two JRCSD COVID-19 pieces of information:

 1. COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies Matrix

 2. Positive COVID-19 Case

 COVID-19 MITIGATION STRATEGIES MATRIX

I would like to remind everyone that we are currently in the yellow level of our COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies Matrix. This means that:

- Social distancing of at least three feet is required while indoors.

 - Masking is mandatory for individuals when at least three feet of social distancing cannot be maintained indoors.

 - Masking is strongly recommended for all individuals when indoors.

To help you understand what type of situation would require masking due to an inability to maintain social distancing indoors, the following are some examples of these instances:

 - Elementary classes lining up in the hallway to go from one destination to another

- Small group instruction at any level (i.e. reading groups, extra academic support/tutoring, etc.)

 - STEM classes that require groups to solve problems through design and construction

For more information about our Reopening Framework, the matrix, and other COVID-19 resources, please visit sau47.org and view the COVID-19 Resources tab.

POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE

I was notified today of our first confirmed positive COVID-19 case of the school year in our JRMS/CHS facility. We recommend that all individuals properly mask while indoors. While our Mitigation Strategies Matrix focuses on absenteeism due to illness, I will continue to inform you when confirmed positive cases have been identified in a school district facility.  Please note, we will not be doing robo-calls for COVID-19 cases this year unless there is a change to the school environment. If you would like more information about our communication around COVID-19, please see page 7 of our Reopening Framework.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
